I dont think regular trees have a spacing requirement, but I always leave a space between my trees just to facilitate getting around them. they just need one space, only the fruit trees need two spaces. Trees are funny. They will drop seedlings that will grow close to the tree.

Do not tile the ground in order to plant a wild tree, cause it will say "out of season" or something. You just throw the seed on the ground and forget about it. It will grow.
